Parents

Parents are always welcome to visit the school but it is essential that you call at the school office first.

If you wish to see the Headteacher to discuss any school matter it is helpful if you first make an appointment.

If you have concerns or worries about any aspect of your child’s education do not hesitate to get in touch with your child’s class teacher or the leadership team. We usually resolve difficulties through informal meetings but, if necessary, there are formal complaint procedures available at the school office.

We welcome parents at class assemblies, particularly those at which their children are involved.

Our teachers are normally available immediately after school, but we would advise you to telephone the school office beforehand to ensure that the teacher has no previous commitment. It is also helpful if you can let us know the reason for your visit so that the teacher can prepare appropriately.

Parent meetings

We like to meet parents regularly to discuss your child’s progress. Parent –Teacher meetings are held each term. Children’s work is shared and their progress is discussed. These meetings are necessarily brief so if you wish to have a long discussion, please arrange to come and see the teacher at another time. Wherever possible appointments for meetings with your child’s teacher will be made at a time to suit you.

Again, the best time to have a meaningful discussion would be after 3.30pm when we are available to devote more time to you.

Keeping in touch

Parents also receive a fortnightly newsletter via their child giving information about school activities etc. Parents can also follow their child’s experiences via their child’s class page.

Pupils’ weekly home learning will also give parents an insight into what their child has been learning and how to support them further.

Each child has a home school journal which is checked daily by teaching staff. We encourage parents to communicate with class teachers using journals and to check daily for messages.

Zones of Regulation

The Zones of Regulation is an internationally renowned intervention which helps children manage their emotions. At Temple Grove Academy we use the Zones of Regulation throughout the whole school. The zones provide a framework for our children to develop self-regulation.

Children learn to identify emotions, recognise events that might make them move to a different zone and use the tools they have learnt to help them remain or move to a particular zone to help them regulate how they are feeling.

Click Zones of Regulation guide for parents carers for further information and ways you can support you child using the Zones of Regulation.
